Ed Rowland I was in NC National Guard, became Sgt. 1st class & editor of Guard Association's Tar Heel Guardsman. Completed service after 6 years.
Fred Mattox I received a direct commission as a Judge Advocate in the Air Force in 1956, serving two years in Misawa, Japan. I entered as a First Lieutenant but stayed in the reserves after three years of active duty. After twenty years, I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. I was the chapter councilor for the SPE colony at East Carolina University in 1960 and helped it receive its active charter and its fraternity house directly across the street from the campus.
Burton Jones I was commissioned US Navy Ensign upon graduation in 1950 from the University of North Carolina, where I was a Beta DKE for 4 years. After completing 3 years of obligated active duty service, I had found a very happy and rewarding career in US Navy. I served 22 years retiring as Commander, before hanging it up to be actively engaged in raising 3 adolescents. Now at 87 plus I can look back and know that 4 years of DKE and 22 USN were the happiest and most significant years of my life. Go DKE, Go Navy!
